Dear Last Stand Members,

The Florida Keys are at a pivotal crossroads as Monroe County deliberates on accepting new state-issued Rate of Growth Ordinances (ROGOs). Decisions made in the coming months could forever alter the Florida Keys, presenting our most significant challenge. Join us for a presentation and survey by Kimberly Matthews, Senior Director of Strategic Planning and Libraries, on the proposed new ROGO allocations.

This will be one of the final group presentations, which differs from the online surveys on the BOCC’s website. This event offers Last Stand members a unique chance to actively participate and help shape the debate determining our community's future. As Last Stand is the only environmental and quality-of-life group taking this Survey, your informed and passionate participation is crucial.

Why Attend?

This is YOUR chance to shape the future of the Keys. Engage in critical discussions about:

  • Buildable Lots & Takings: Evaluate whether the number of buildable lots and takings case estimates are inflated, potentially driving decisions that favor extensive new development.

  • Development vs. Safety: Ask why the County is prioritizing new development over protecting current residents and their investments, especially when such development necessitates taxpayer-funded infrastructure and utility expansions.

  • Infrastructure Costs: Address the lack of debate on the billions required to upgrade Monroe County's infrastructure to support new ROGOs. Understand the financial burden of flood-proofing roads, improving water quality, and managing increased waste.

This meeting is a rare opportunity to let your voice be heard and to demand transparency and accountability in decisions that will impact our community forever. Last Stand looks forward to seeing you there. For more information, or if you have any questions, please email us at info@keyslaststand.org.
