Advocacy and Policy Initiatives

On April 17, 2024, Last Stand spoke at the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), and on April 16, 2024, Last Stand presented a letter opposing the proposed Comprehensive Plan Amendment granting 86 Early Evacuation (EE) ROGOs To CEMEX Construction Materials, Florida, LLC, which was inconsistent with County policy via an ordinance reserving these EE ROGOs for potential takings liabilities.

 April 27, 2024, Last Stand sponsored an author discussion at Books & Books featuring Lydia Millet, a National Book Award Finalist and a professional at the Center for Biological Diversity. This event aligns with Last Stand’s mission to preserve and protect the unique natural environment of the Florida Keys

March 12, 2024, Last Stand letter opposing the petition filed by Marathon to expand the use of the Area 3 wastewater treatment plant and shallow wells.

Keys Last Stand Board of Directors

The Board of Directors at Last Stand serves as the pivotal force behind the organization's vision and initiatives. Comprised entirely of dedicated volunteers, these members are elected annually at the organization's Annual Meeting to steer Last Stand's actions and stances. Through monthly meetings, the Board deliberates on pressing issues, making critical decisions regarding resource allocation and strategic direction, aligning with Last Stand's overarching mission of environmental preservation and community advocacy. With steadfast leadership and collaborative efforts, the Board of Directors is instrumental in advancing Last Stand's mission, shaping a sustainable future for the Florida Keys.
