Sent to Monroe County Planning Commission

Planning Commissioners:

In your June 24, 2020 meeting you will be asked to approve a requirement that developers and redevelopers provide 50% of the new workforce housing demand created by a proposed expansion of commercial floorspace or a change in use. We fully support this requirement.

Last Stand believes most of this increase in workforce will be at the very lowest income range – the most likely to need housing assistance. The need for assistance is closer to 100%. We believe a 50% is most generous to the developer.

Please do not be swayed by last minute pleadings from business interests to lower this percentage. Last Stand believes the employer is ultimately responsible for the cost of housing their employees either through wages and salaries or through housing subsidies. This inclusionary requirement is a wonderful first step toward assuring that goal. Please keep the requirement at 50%.

Respectfully,

Last Stand Board of Directors
