Dear Mayor and Commissioners:

Re: City Commission Agenda Item 29 - 715 and 811 Seminole Ave

Last Stand was surprised that this agenda item authorizing negotiations between the City of Key West and the owners of 715 and 811 Seminole Avenue regarding a Development Agreement was placed on the August 8th Agenda. 

Would it be possible to explain to the public during the meeting why this step is necessary?

Given the size and importance of the area and neighborhood subject to the negotiations, the controversial nature of the previous proposals for the area, and the substantial community interest, we believe any discussions related to this project should be deferred and scheduled after October 1, 2024, as many of the residents concerned about this project are often traveling during the June through August summer months.

Furthermore, we thought it is odd that a matter of such import would be brought before a mostly lame duck City Commission, with at least three and as many as four new commission members expected to be seated after the August 20, 2024, elections.

Last Stand remains committed to protecting Key West residents' interests, preserving the region's unique character, and representing the voice of the Community.

Based on the previous proposals, we remain opposed to any zoning changes in the area from historic residential to historic commercial for 715 and 811 Seminole Avenue in the Casa Marina District.
